Gifts to SBU Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) contribute to...
Established in 1979, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) branch at Stony Brook University is a professional organization focused on preparing students for their innovative careers as computer, electrical, and software engineers. IEEE works to develop our members’ skills and inspire a desire to learn more about our field outside the classroom. We hold about 20 academic, professional, technical and social events per semester, including soldering workshops, embedded systems workshops, student-professor mixers and miniature robotics competitions, maintaining an active membership of over 80 students per year.
Over the last three years, we’ve won numerous awards, including:
- College of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ Most Outstanding Event for organizing and hosting our 2025 IEEE Regions 1 and 2 Student Conference, a three-day conference with more than 300 attendees and more than 20 events
- College of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ Most Outstanding Event for our 2023 Student Professor Mixer
- College of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ Most Outstanding Organization for the 2023–24 year
- Over eight additional awards for success in maze-solving robotics competitions
We run a lab space in Light Engineering 175 equipped with soldering irons, 3D printers and electrical test equipment. Open for over 40 hours per week, our lab is frequented by students seeking a place to study or work on projects. However, due to our limited budget, our lab still leaves much to be desired.
Your contribution will help us procure new, upgraded equipment that best serves our students as they develop their experience for their careers. We would like to provide new soldering equipment to make electrical design more accessible and microscopes to help students troubleshoot circuit boards. Thank you for your support for our club members and organization!
