Gifts to Black Womyn’s Association (BWA) contribute to...
The Black Womyn’s Association (BWA), previously known as Black Women’s Weekend, is a committee-based organization established in 1978 by a group of African American womyn. As one of the longstanding organizations at Stony Brook University, BWA’s mission is to honor the struggles and celebrate the achievements of womyn of color throughout history, acknowledge the experiences of those in the present and inspire young girls to become womyn of the future. BWA aims to enlighten, inform and foster cultural unity.
We aim to create a safe space for Black womyn to share their experiences and be their authentic selves. To foster this, we host a variety of events and GBMs that often require supplies, food and professional contractors. Funds raised through generous donor support would help cover these costs and lessen the burden on members to pay out of pocket.
Additionally, funds raised will also help us host our 48th annual fashion show in the spring semester. This fashion show has been a longstanding tradition of our organization and a space to showcase Black love, relationships, emotions and creativity. With donor support, we can continue this legacy rather than risk canceling or scaling back such an important event.
