About

Stony Brook Student Nurses Association (SBSNA) seeks to prepare students for initial licensure as registered nurses and believes that there is a shared need to come together, present ourselves effectively to consumers and other healthcare professionals and claim our rightful position within the nursing profession. Our organization seeks to strengthen the future of nursing, create advancements in patient care and be a resource for the community through service initiatives, resources and compassion.

Our mission is to:

  1. Transition nursing students into the professional role of nursing.
  2. Actively contribute to the education of nursing to promote the highest quality of healthcare.
  3. Develop opportunities and events that embody the primary interests and concerns of the nursing student body.
  4. Support the holistic development of the individual, encompassing their professional role and their responsibility for providing healthcare to people from all backgrounds.

Every year, our organization attends the NSNA Annual Convention. For 2026, the convention will be held in Houston. This past year, we received over three recognized awards. The convention is not just an event but a learning experience as you get to vote on new student nursing laws and attend different seminars. The hard part is that, due to the convention being held out of state, funds are required for travel and stay. If we receive more funds for this, we can potentially have more of our organization attend and represent our program.

Additionally, our organization aims to raise awareness about Stony Brook and the School of Nursing. Together, SBSNA is seeking to be more involved in the community and host events that may require equipment and resources for the community to use when learning skills or what nursing has to offer. For example, we intend to host safety and educational events, community outreach programs, charity and hospital donations and potential opportunities to welcome guest speakers. Aiding our funding account will allow these events to thrive and make a bigger impact on the community and the School of Nursing. We would love to do a mission trip; however, this will depend on our funding.

With the financial assistance of donors, our organization can make a lasting difference for our current and future students, help serve and educate the community, inspire others to advocate for positive change and recognize the dedication and impact nurses provide to every individual and their loved ones.
