St. Olaf's health and counseling services support student wellness by providing accessible, low-cost care for physical and mental health needs.
When health and wellness resources are more accessible, students can focus on their academic and personal growth by staying healthy, managing stress and accessing the care they need when they need it.

This availability of services keeps them healthy and able to focus on the important work of being a student and community member.
Our services are especially important to students with fewer financial resources, because we can provide some of the same services that an urgent care or primary care office can provide without involving insurance companies and keeping costs low. We also help to triage student concerns and get them connected with a higher level of care or specialty care when needed.โ

We build relationships with students and assist them with navigating the healthcare system (how to make an appointment or pick up a prescription, etc.), as many students have not had to handle their own health care entirely before."
"At the Counseling Center this year, students are more and more willing to access counseling services as it becomes more normalized in our society. We are also seeing an increase in students presenting with trauma as their primary concern.
In the past, anxiety has been our top presenting concern (around 30-35% of students seeking services), and depression and relationships are usually the second and third presenting concerns (around 15-18% for each).
However, this past semester (Fall 2024) trauma was tied for third as our top presenting concern with relationships, which tells me that students are 1) experiencing and recognizing trauma at higher levels than previous years and 2) are more likely to seek counseling for trauma-related symptoms and concerns."
