Today, St. Mary’s introduced our community – on campus and beyond – to our new Spectrum Esports Arena through a virtual opening ceremony. Now, St. Mary’s and our Rattlers invite alumni and friends to join the launch of the arena by watching the livestream of the Esports program’s Twitch feed and helping expand the accessibility of Esports in the community.
In partnership with a campus-wide commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the St. Mary's Esports team is debuting its brand-new arena with a 12-hour fundraising stream — the Rattler Esports FANGraiser — to raise funds to help support scholarships to help recruit Black American and Latino students to St. Mary’s and our Esports team.
Now more than ever, St. Mary’s University recognizes that each opportunity for our students is the result of significant investments others have made in their lives and our mission.
Investments of time, love, faith and money — from family, friends and mentors — shape students’ experiences and access to being a student-athlete.
But these resources are far from evenly spread, representing one of the many forms of social injustice affecting youth in San Antonio and the nation.
In the world of esports and competitive PC gaming, Black Americans and Latinos are underrepresented, in part because the high costs of equipment and high-speed internet limits these students’ access.
Your gift during the 12-hour livestream will go toward scholarships for future Black and Latino students in the Rattler Esports program.
