On May 24, 2022, Alexandria "Lexi" Aniyah Rubio, daughter of Kimberly Mata-Rubio, a St. Mary's University senior majoring in History, was killed in the tragic mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
The entire St. Mary's community of students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters extends our deepest condolences to Kimberly, Felix Rubio, her husband, their extended family and all those affected.
Many of our alumni have reached out to St. Mary's and expressed an interest in creating a scholarship in memory of Lexi. After speaking with the Mata-Rubio family and receiving their blessing, St. Mary's University has created the Alexandria "Lexi" A. Rubio Memorial Law Scholarship Fund in Lexi's honor to provide scholarship support for a law student enrolled at St. Mary's University.
The Alexandria "Lexi" A. Rubio Memorial Law Scholarship Fund honors Lexi and her aspirations to attend law school at St. Mary's University.
The Fund will award scholarships to St. Mary's School of Law students who exemplify the spirit of Lexi's intellectual curiosity, resilience and her deep commitment to family values. Once fully funded, gifts to this endowed fund will support selected St. Mary's students pursuing a legal education based on their financial need.
Please keep Kimberly, the Mata-Rubio family and the Uvalde community in your prayers as they grieve for Lexi and the victims whose lives were taken.

The memorial fund went public last Friday with my initial $5,000 pledge. Since then, it has more than doubled, and we have yet to make a formal solicitation to our law alumni community.
