Here We Go Saints 2025

History is made: Here We Go Saints 2025 has broken the University records for both donors and dollars during its athletic donor drive. Thank you to the 2,990 donors who combined for a new HWGS dollar total of $754,154!

Five years ago, this project started thanks to Barry '69 and Pat Phelps '69, P'96, and we truly can’t thank them enough for making this drive possible. Our gratitude also goes out to all of our advocates that offered matches and challenges that compound both the impact and fun of HWGS, including Bill Shaffer ’67 for his gift to push us towards these new records.

The “Scarlet & Brown Rewards” have been finalized, with seven teams earning bonuses across our categories. Congratulations to each of our teams who earned these rewards, and thank you to Dick Metcalf, John Clark, Margie Strait, and Bob Durocher for all they’ve done for St. Lawrence. They’re true Laurentian legends!

As always, we look forward to cheering on the Saints throughout the 2025-26 seasons. Thank you so much for your record-setting support, and for the final time of the 2025 edition…

HERE WE GO SAINTS!!

It’s time for the Mane Event: For the first time in Here We Go Saints history, in honor of a beloved North Country tradition, we bring you the Scarlet & Brown Derby!

As we attempt to jump the Here We Go Saints donor record by 8 p.m. ET tonight, donors can now pony up and use this tack-tic as we sprint to the finish. From 5 – 7 p.m. ET, an anonymous Laurentian couple is hosting the S&B Derby, matching dollar-for-dollar gifts up to $50 to the Saints (max of $5,000).

We hope you’re champing at the bit for this new carrot. Let’s make this a blue-ribbon performance and turn back all the neigh-sayers.

We received a call a short time ago from Bill Shaffer ’67, who said “records are meant to be broken!” That’s why he’s decided to launch the inaugural “Chase for the Record”; if by 8 p.m. ET today we have reached a new donor record for HWGS, he’ll add $10,000 dollars to Saints Athletics! That means we need to reach 2,878 donors with the remaining time on the clock.

What do you say, Saints? Can we make some history today?!

For the fifth consecutive year, the St. Lawrence family has answered the call from Barry ’69 and Pat Hitchcock Phelps ’69, P’96 to join them in rallying support for our student-athletes. Clocking in with a new record time, over 2,000 donors have helped lock in a total of $70,000 for the Saints! Our coaches, student-athletes, and the entire Laurentian Community are so grateful for all the Phelps Family has done for St. Lawrence, including leading the way during Here We Go Saints once again.

The warm-up music is off, the crowd is red-hot, and the competition is about to get fierce! Attention is turning to our Scarlet & Brown Leaderboards: who will earn the coveted bonus bucks?! We’ll find out at 8 p.m. ET tonight! Show some pride in your shirt and join the cause today!

It’s a bluebird day in the North Country and we’re unwavering in our support of St. Lawrence student-athletes on Day 2 of Here We Go Saints 2025! We’re on pace to hit high marks and achieve 2k supporters to surpass the Phelps Family Challenge: Part 2! Here We Row Saints!

The Appleton siren is sounding for all these goals, but we’re resisting the urge to celly yet. There’s still 24 hours remaining after all! Instead, the Phelpes are dangling a new challenge that would be the icing on the cake!

Barry and Pat Phelps have decided to once again offer The Phelps Family Challenge Part II: 2K for $20K. If 2,000 donors give before 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 30, they will add an additional $20,000 to their support of our student-athletes.

It’s been a top-shelf performance from each of our donors thus far, and we can’t o-mitts anyone from joining the cause. The Zamboni is done: back to work, Saints!

Woah. The St. Lawrence community really attacked this year’s Phelps Family Challenge! With so many donors being willing to dig in and bump our number over 1,000, we’ve unlocked $50,000 for student-athletes before the sun sets in Canton. We have no doubt our donors will keep killing the next phase of HWGS 2025. Way to go, Saints!

Last lap, Saints! The Phelps Family Challenge is nearly at its cap, with $45,000 pooled for St. Lawrence student-athletes. The heat is on as we look to meet our initial goal of 1,000 donors. Feel free to help by advocating with friends and family to (flip) turn out for the Scarlet & Brown!

Whistle! Whistle! The Saints have tallied another goal, and even Roy Kent would be smiling thanks to 800+ donors to SLU Athletics. It’s encouraging to see so many alumni and parents in our corner; they’re real keepers. But don’t let the donor count come to a dribble. Reach out to a teammate and have them strike today!

“Root, root, root for the Saaaaints, if we don’t reach our goal it’s a shame!” Sing along with every single donor whose helped put 700+ on the scoreboard. We appreciate our advocates, many who have decided to double or triple your impact today! Laurentians around the world are supporting Saints Athletics today, and as President Roosevelt pointed out, we believed and we’re halfway there! Over 500 donors have formed an alliance for St. Lawrence and have us feeling as strong as a bull moose in the Phelps Family Challenge #HistoryBuffs. 4 Cups for 400 Donors. Today, we celebrate the legacy and memory of Athletic Hall of Famer Ron Waske ’69, who passed away on September 28, 2025. Ron won four consecutive Stanley Cup titles with the New York Islanders before returning to his alma mater to serve as the head athletic trainer, a role he held for 26 years. He was inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019, and has a plaque in the Hockey Hall of Fame’s section for trainers as well. We’re thinking of Ron, his family and friends, and are grateful for all he did for St. Lawrence University.
