Alternative Spring Break is one of the most unique opportunities for a St. Joseph's College student. It is a one-week intensive service opportunity where students help a city in our country that has recently gone through many hardships. Students take part in acts of selflessness as they help these cities rebuild and make a difference in the lives of the diverse groups of the people they meet. From building houses, to serving in soup kitchens, to clearing land to rebuild, there is no act of service that is too small. Students also gain a sense of gratefulness, as they see how there are many people in the United States who are not living the best of lives, but are hopeful that things will become better because of the students like ours.
SJC has traveled all over the United States. Some years we help out locally, like in Breezy Point, NY and New Jersey. Other years we travel much farther to Colorado, Texas, North and South Carolina, and Oklahoma, just to name a few states.
The Brooklyn students are able to share this experience with each other and foster new relationships with each other that will last a lifetime. The experience is even more special because they are able to share it with students from the Long Island campus, as this is one of the few opportunities the students have to meet the Long Island Golden Eagles.
In short, Alternative Spring Break has left an impact on every student that took a chance on the opportunity. We ask any faculty, alumni, parents, and students to consider donating to our fund. Your donation will help subsidize the cost for our students who are volunteering their spring breaks to make a difference in our country. Please know that every donation we receive will be going to an amazing cause and changes the lives of so many people each year.
