Baltic States Performance Tour and Pilgrimage 2019
The Music Department of St. Edward’s is constantly expanding the opportunities for our students to engage in musical and cultural exchange. Twelve years ago, we established the Masterworks Singers, a Community Chorus open to all who love choral music. This chorus has the mission of enhancing the performing opportunities of our Undergraduate musicians and creating a community of people of all generations to share in the power of bringing peace and unity to audiences both here and abroad through the unifying language of the music.
On May 13, 2019, the St. Edward's University Chorale, Madrigal Chamber Singers and Masterworks Singers will embark on a performance tour of the Baltic states of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. The musical program will feature compositions of American composers, including some outstanding music composed specifically for St. Edward’s University. Students will perform concerts and liturgies in some of the oldest churches in the region. When they are not singing, they will explore art and architecture that is the pride of Europe. Cities to be visited during the tour are Vilnius and Trakai, Lithuania; Riga and Sigulda, Latvia; and Parnu and Tallinn, Estonia. The trip will conclude with an overnight in Helsinki, Finland, on the way home.
The cost of the tour is $3,400 per traveler. We expect to have 40 student participants. The funds being sought will be shared among those students who need financial assistance in order to participate and will be awarded by the university's financial aid office in consultation with the choral music department. Non-students are not eligible for these funds.
