Saluki Formula Racing is a student-led organization at Southern Illinois University within the College of Engineering, consisting of approximately twenty members. We are a group of highly motivated students brought together by a passion for motorsports.
Each year, we work to produce a highly competitive open-wheel race car for Formula SAE, an intercollegiate competition attended by teams from top universities around the world. Each vehicle is conceived, designed, and fabricated completely from scratch- all while adhering to over 140 pages of technical rules. This allows us to step outside of the classroom and put our engineering education to work on a real-world project with measurable results.
Our team provides many rewarding experiences to our members. We take students from a variety of backgrounds such as; mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive technology, finance, supply chain management, and zoology. We teach students the fundamentals of how performance race cars operate, along with providing them the opportunity to learn hands-on manufacturing skills.
Saluki Formula Racing prides itself on being a group that gives back to the community. We routinely attend open houses and recruiting events to help promote the University. We also spend our weekends attending local car shows to help get community members interested in some of the programs offered to students at SIU. You can also find us volunteering by working the concession stands at the SIU football games.
All the money needed to send our group to competitions and build our car come from fundraisers like this. Without enthusiastic donors like yourself, we would not be able to give students all of these wonderful experiences. The money that we are raising will go towards the cost of attending competitions, transporting the team to competitions, buying new parts for the race car, and manufacturing some of our custom components.
