The SIU Alumni Association is the gateway for alumni who want to stay involved in the life of SIU Carbondale. Hosting a variety of events and programs each year, the Association supports activities that engage alumni and students, promote Saluki pride, and provide opportunities for professional networking and mentorship.
As the oldest and largest organization on campus, the Association has been proudly serving alumni, students, and friends since 1896. It represents a living alumni base of more than 260,000 individuals and plays key partnership roles with various other departments across campus, including Saluki Athletics and the Office of the Chancellor.
In addition, the Association is also home to the Student Alumni Council, an organization focused on providing students with the development of volunteer and leadership skills that help carry them into the future. These student ambassadors are active, not just at SIUC but in several communities around southern Illinois.
For the 2024 SIU Day of Giving, the Association is asking donors to contribute to our efforts to endow scholarships that support students in strong SIU recruitment areas. We are also raising funds for the Student Leadership Fund that assists students with their professional development skills. Please see our giving opportunities and consider the impact your gift could have on our students.
Scholarship Endowments – Chicago, St. Louis, and Williamson County, IL
There are more than a dozen regional alumni groups and chapters across the state of Illinois and country, with hundreds of alumni in each who gather regularly to share their Saluki spirit and raise money for local high school students to attend SIU Carbondale. This year, the Association has a goal of endowing regional scholarships for Chicago, St. Louis, and Williamson County in Southern Illinois.
Chicago is home to more than 40,000 Saluki alumni and serves as a major recruitment hub for incoming SIU students. The greater St. Louis region has more than 20,000 alumni with an active alumni group raising funds to send more local students to Carbondale. Williamson County is one of the most populous counties in Southern Illinois and neighbors Jackson County, where SIU Carbondale is located. If endowed, Williamson County would join Jackson and Union counties as regions with a stable scholarship fund for students who want to explore their educational opportunities at SIU. The goal for endowment in each fund is $25,000.
Consider donating to one or more of these scholarship funds, and you will be helping keep the pipeline open for future generations of students to become proud Salukis.

Student Leadership Development Fund
The Association is seeking to create an endowed fund that will serve as a resource for Student Alumni Council members who need financial aid for professional and leadership development training. Students may access these funds to participate in a number of conferences and workshops focused on networking with other future leaders. These opportunities will further enhance the already stellar education they are receiving as Salukis.
Consider donating to this fund, and you will help propel our outstanding students forward among many other student leaders across the nation.
