Gifts to Undocumented/DACA Student Support Space contribute to...
DACA is an administrative relief that protects eligible immigrants who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA gives undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation, and 2) a work permit. The program requires that the DACA status and work permit be renewed every two years.
This space is where our undocumented students and their families find guidance, resources and support to guide them through college education. We believe in the SIU mission statement of "Access and opportunity, nurturing student success and changing lives."
As an Anti-racist institution, we work intentionally to provide resources and equitable practices of access to higher education independently of citizenship status or economic background. We believe that all undocumented students deserve to feel welcomed, served and empowered to be successful as we help them transform their lives, and change their community.
DACA students, like a majority of our student population, require financial assistance to attend college and earn degrees. They face financial obstacles, including the DACA registration fee ($495) and legal expenses, in addition to their tuition. Transform the lives of DACA students at SIU.
DACA Student Assistance Award Fund: This fund will help DACA students in pursuit of a college degree by offsetting expenses related to DACA.
