A financial contribution to The Center for Teaching Excellence is a direct investment into the central hub of the SIUC campus. Every instructional support activity we provide, every training we lead, and every service call we answer for classroom technology support increases the quality of teaching and learning at SIUC. A contribution to the CTE is an investment. It’s an investment to improve faculty teaching, student learning, and student retention.
Contributions from last year’s campaign were invested into several projects, including the following:
- SIU Teaching and Learning with AI Week;
- Inaugural SPARK Week, which is a week of Support, Professional development;
- Advancement, Resources, and Knowledge for all new and returning faculty and graduate teaching assistants;
- Upgrades in classroom technology for neurodiverse learners;
- Investments in certificate workshops through the Online Learning Consortium;
- Installation of new podium technology and AV system in Guyon Auditorium.
In total, we hosted over 300 hours of training that connected with over 50% of the faculty. With your contribution, we can increase our outreach and continue to enhance teaching and learning through faculty development that increases learning outcomes for SIU’s online and on-campus students.
CTE is the unit that provides training and development for our faculty. According to a study by the consulting firm Accenture, there is a 5x return on investments in professional development. This means your $100 contribution today will have $500 impact on the SIU community.
This year, we’re focused on energizing our faculty and moving the campus forward through strategic investments and upgrades in our instructional technology and classroom infrastructure. With the help of the Office of Information Technology and donors like you, we plan to inject more than $400,000 into classroom technology upgrades across campus.
On this Day of Giving, we are asking you to support our faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate students by contributing to the CTE. $1000 would be amazing! $10 will still make an impact.
