Gifts to Student and Campus Experience contribute to...
Career and Professional Development Fund: By eliminating financial barriers, this fund supports our students in pursuit of unpaid internships, local and international volunteer experiences, on-campus research and leadership development opportunities, and other related opportunities to develop transferrable industry skills, knowledge and experience, as well as to explore career interests presented by the Office of Career and Professional Development.
Friends of the Library Fund: The Buley Library is a place for experiential education βstudents learn together in our study spaces, through library internships, by conducting research and writing, by designing exhibits, making personalized books through our Artists Book program, and creating in the Makerspace. Gifts to the Friends of the Library Fund will help us purchase more textbooks for student use, advance our collecting and programming in Special Collections, and help us expand the Makerspace!
Green Fund: supports Southern students taking action for climate, sustainability, and healthy communities. In the past 9 years, more than 70 interns have worked at Southern leading food recovery, the campus garden, composting at Conn Hall, tracking the university's carbon footprint, and revitalizing local parks.
Sage Center and LBGTQ+ Fund: The SAGE Center is committed to providing a positive academic, cultural, and social environment where the LGBTQ+ community at Southern can learn, grow, and thrive. We help to cultivate inclusion through social and educational programming, advocacy, and support. The SAGE Center LGBTQ+ Fund was created to support Southern students who identify in the LGBTQ+ community to mitigate barriers to their education. Student support through the SAGE Center Fund may include emergency funds for unforeseen circumstances; assistance with basic needs such as food, clothing, or shelter; assistance with gender affirming clothing and accessories; assistance with tuition, fees, or books; small grants for educational and professional development opportunities; programs and initiatives that support student development and success. Supporting LGBTQ+ financially may help to mitigate one or more barriers that may affect one's persistence and supports these students in earning their Southern degree.
University Access Programs (UAP) Fund: Gifts of $50+ or more to UAP Fund will purchase the graduation stole of a First Generation Senior!
The UAP Fund aids in the stewardship of key programs and services that increase access and the academic success of first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students in higher education. These programs include:
- Southern Educational Opportunity Program (SEOP)
- New Haven Promise Scholars (NHP)
- Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)
- Promoting Academically Successful Students (PASS)
UAP works in eight strategic areas to reach its overall goals of increasing enrollment, academic performance, and graduation rates of students from demographic groups historically underrepresented in higher education.
SCSU Community Dog Policing Fund: The SCSUβs Community Dog Policing Fund will support the police dogs who are currently part of the Southern Connecticut State University Police Department. Funding will support community initiatives, such as events, which will enhance the awareness and efficacy of the SCSU Police Department presence within the Southern community.

Nearly one-third of Southern's entire student body β undergraduate and graduate students -- identify as first-gen; and more than half of our first-year class β 57 percent β identifies as first-gen.
Here at Southern, we are proud to have a large and vibrant first generation community. And that doesn't involve just current students -- there is a variety of alumni, faculty, and staff who also share pride in having pursued a college degree before their parents and are looking to connect with individuals and families who share that experience.
