There are a number of ways to support students during a time of crisis or unexpected emergency. The student emergency relief provide immediate funding to students with unforeseen hardships that help them continue their education and fulfil their dream of a college degree. Current funds to support include:
The Support Our Students (SOS) Fund: Helps students and their families who are facing unforeseen hardships. Gifts to the SOS Fund are used to support the following but are not limited to...
- Students who are facing food insecurity and homelessness
- Provide financial relief to students (and their families) in need of food, water, and other basic essentials
- Assist students who are struggling to pay their heat, water, gas, or electricity bills
- Help students stay connected by supporting their technology costs โ whether its WIFI, laptops, or cellphones
The AAA Fund:
The Academics, Administration & Alumni (AAA) Student Relief Fund is to provide short-term financial relief to students in need as determined by the AAA Committee. Gifts of $500 can be granted immediately to students who apply for assistance.
The Believe Fund: The Believe Fund provides emergency assistance to matriculated undergraduate or graduate students students within the College of Health and Human Services who are experiencing short-term, unanticipated finical hardship.
The BSU Emergency Fund: Southern's Black Student Union (BSU) was created in an effort to develop an Afro-American consciousness at SCSU, and to support the broadening enhancement of the social and cultural development of students--and in doing so-- promote general welfare of the university and the national community. Funds to the BSU Emergency Fund provides assistance to current BSU members who are going through a difficult time financially. Donations provide critically needed support, including:
- Assistance with tuition, fees or books
- Emergency funding due to unforeseen crisis
- Assistance meeting basic needs such as food, clothing or shelter
The Helping Hands Fund:
Provides short-term financial assistance to students in crisis who holds a GPA of 2.0 or higher and will cover basic needs such as housing (including repairs such as for a water or heating system), utilities, transportation (including auto repair), food, child care and medical expenses.
