Thank you for your contribution to support the Masters of Arts in English!

The MA in English fosters a close-knit community devoted to the advanced study of literature, writing, and theory. Our vibrant student body comprises in-service English teachers, second-degree seekers, publishers and editors, aspirants to PhD-level literary studies, grant writers, and community service advocates. Our MA students share seats in their courses with creative writers and teachers-in-training, leading to uniquely diverse classroom discussions and environments.

Through an array of classes drawn from the research specialties of over twenty faculty, we offer flexible program requirements and avenues of study, with a particularly popular area of focus being our specialization in African American literature. Interested students also have opportunities to gain teaching experience at the college level and to participate in collaborative initiatives throughout the greater New Haven community.
