The Department of Biological and Physical Sciences provides a rigorous foundation for students pursuing careers in health, medicine, research, and STEM-related fields. With hands-on laboratory experiences, strong faculty mentorship, and degree tracks in biology, chemistry, and physics, students are well-prepared for graduate programs and professional schools. SC State also offers a unique undergraduate degree in Physics with a concentration in Medical Physics, a rare opportunity in the Southeast and a powerful steppingstone for future physicists and healthcare innovators. Your gift supports student research, lab innovation, and pathways to science-driven careers that change lives.

Donor funds will have the greatest impact on student persistence in the BAPS major. A lack of finances is the most prevalent reason given by students who do not complete their degrees. Having scholarships available will greatly impact the number of students retained and the number who graduate with a BAPS degree. Currently many students are working full time in addition to attending classes and completing assignments in a timely manner which impacts their degree completion. The money raised will be used to provide 10 $2000.00 scholarships to outstanding students (to include freshman and transfer students), who pursue a BAPS major in physics, chemistry and biology.
