BECT Institute Excellence Fund

The Business, Environment, Communications and Transportation (BECT) Institute stands at the intersection of science, justice, innovation, and community transformation. Through cutting-edge research, outreach, and academic programming in environmental justice and climate-smart agriculture, the institute empowers students to become leaders in sustainability, equity, and entrepreneurship. The BECT Institute provide experiences and opportunities for students and faculty to enhance their employability skills and engage in research

In 2025, BECT launched a Venture Accelerator Competition, awarding $17,000 in prizes to eight emerging entrepreneurs—including SC State students—after completing an intensive eight-week training in digital marketing and business development. This milestone marks just the beginning of what’s possible with sustained support.

As one of the 7 institutes of the Institutes of Innovation developed by the late Senator John Scott, BECT reflects SC State’s bold commitment to solving the challenges of today—and tomorrow. Your gift helps expand student scholarships, research stipends & awards, student-led research, student travel to conferences and workshops, grow entrepreneurial programs, and prepare the next generation of changemakers who are building a better, more equitable world.
