About

The Smith Fund is challenging the Smith College community to raise $3.1 million in 31 days for scholarship aid. Throughout the month, all donations, no matter the size, will go directly toward keeping a Smith education accessible and affordable.

By giving before December ends, you'll empower hundreds of Smith students to launch bright futures on our campus, setting them on a course to change the world. We're counting on you to rise to the challenge and help Smith meet its promise to provide an exceptional education to all students, regardless of their financial need.

Please give this season's most powerful gift.

THANK YOU!

Essential Smith Update #4

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far this month. We are at a remarkable $1.4 million, and climbing!

The College will be closed for winter break from December 24th through January 2nd. However, the Essential Smith campaign will continue!

The Gifts and Records office will be available for your charitable gift-related questions during normal business hours December 26th through December 31st. If you would like to make a gift or have questions regarding a gift, please call 800-526-2023 and select Option 5 or dial direct to 413-585-2036.  You may also email giftaccounting@smith.edu.

This website will be updated with all "offline" donation activity on January 7 or 8--once we are sure we have recorded all December gifts. Thank you for your support!

Essential Smith Update #3

We are now more than 1/3 of the way towards our goal! Thank you to all who have participated and to those who are thinking about doing so before 12/31.

Here is the story of a third student supported by gifts to The Smith Fund: https://www.smith.edu/about-sm...

Belise Bwiza '20 came to Smith from Kigali, Rwanda. She states: "I wouldn't have applied to Smith if I hadn’t dared to hope to receive financial aid. I also came to realize that if a school like Smith could use their resources to invest in me, it meant that I was actually worth something and that I would do big things in life, not only for myself, but also for my family and my country."

Essential Smith Update #2

In only 10 days, we have raised $500,000. Thank you! Please continue to spread the word. Every gift--no matter the size--makes a difference!

Here's another student who is supported by your donations:

Visit https://www.smith.edu/about-sm... to read about Sarah Glidden '20 and her path to choosing Smith.

She states: “My financial aid has lifted an extreme burden off of me and my family. My parents have been forced to pay extremely high medical bills, and will continue to as my sister and I go to follow-up appointments and undergo further medical procedures. I would not have been able to attend Smith without my generous financial aid package.”

Essential Smith Update #1

Wow! Thank you to all of our supporters so far. We earned the full $75,000 match from Martha "Mardee" Brown '77 and a generous member of the Class of 1970, and we are still going strong!

Curious to hear about a current Smithie your gifts help to support?

She states: “Without financial aid, attending an institution like Smith would not be an option. Now, I can attend a school that I am proud of and focus on my academic success.”
