December Giving Challenge

This campaign ended on January 01, 2020, but you can still make a gift to Smith College by clicking here!

Your gifts to The Smith Fund have an immediate impact on the lives of current Smithies like Nancy.

In high school, Nancy was already challenging conventional thinking, optimizing genomic DNA yields and purification as a research intern in a biotech lab. At Smith, she continues to explore what is possible, doing research that has far-reaching implications for those impacted by antibiotic resistance.

Under the guidance of Professor Robert Dorit, Nancy is working to create a more intelligently designed antibiotic that targets only a specified bacterium, preserving essential gut flora–and leaving patients healthier and less vulnerable to other infections.

“I knew I wouldn’t be able to attend a college with a large price tag. It simply didn’t make sense to dig myself into a huge amount of debt for undergrad when I knew I also had to pay for graduate school. Smith has been incredible with the support they provide me. Donations from alumnae have made it possible for students of all backgrounds to pursue an education at Smith. It’s what has made generations of strong Smithies possible.” –Nancy Jung ’20

This December, The Smith Fund will raise funds in support of scholarship aid. A generous member from the Class of 1963 will give $25,000 to Smith if 1,500 other alums, parents, and friends make donations of any size during this time. Please help carry on the Smith tradition of supporting one another with a gift to the Smith Fund today. Every dollar you give helps relieve the needs of current Smithies like Nancy.
