About

100 Years of Skidmore College
$100,000 Challenge Match
1 Day to Make Your Gift!

On May 25, 1922, the New York State Board of Regents officially recognized the collegiate status of the Skidmore School of Arts, prompting immediate jubilation and celebration on Skidmore’s small campus in downtown Saratoga Springs. Two weeks later, the newly chartered Skidmore College issued its first degrees — 27 baccalaureate and seven three-year degrees.

Over the past century, Skidmore has grown — from the modest but forward-looking Young Women’s Industrial Club founded by Lucy Skidmore Scribner in 1903, to the dynamic, globally oriented institution of higher learning whose graduates lead and serve in organizations of every kind around the world today.

The Skidmore community is vibrant and together, we’ve forged a century filled with innovation, opportunity, perseverance, and above all else — creativity. Where will we go next? Make your Skidmore Fund gift in honor of Charter Day and help write our next chapter, shape our next century, and tell the world that Creative Thought Matters more than ever.

Trustee Challenge: Double your impact, gifts on Charter Day will be matched 1:1 thanks to a generous challenge from members of the Board of Trustees.

You can direct your giving to any of the following Skidmore Fund priorities:

  • Academic and Faculty Support - Supports professional development, faculty research and sabbaticals, enabling faculty to bring groundbreaking discoveries into the classroom.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Funds student and faculty programs across disciplines, helping Skidmore to address what it means to be diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
  • Friends of Skidmore Athletics - Friends of Skidmore Athletics (FOSA) enables Skidmore teams to compete at the highest levels and encourages recreational competition and wellness.
  • Friends of the Tang Teaching Museum - Sustains the Tang’s position as a leader among campus museums and as a vital resource for the College and regional communities.
  • Scholarships and Financial Aid - More than 40 percent of students attending Skidmore receive financial aid. In fact, in the last 10 years, Skidmore has more than doubled its commitment to financial aid. Scholarship gifts to the Skidmore Fund make a Skidmore education accessible to all. The College can continue to educate students based on their strengths and potential —not their ability to pay.
  • Sustainable Skidmore - The Sustainable Skidmore Office promotes and advocates for sustainability at Skidmore College, highlights sustainable programs and practices on campus, and makes it possible for Skidmore to contribute to a greener future.
  • Support it all! – unrestricted giving supports every aspect of the College and enables Skidmore to be flexible and responsive to emerging opportunities and current needs.
Updates
You made Charter Day a huge success, here’s to Skidmore’s next century!

Wow! It was truly heartwarming to see the Skidmore community come together on Charter Day to celebrate our history and chart a path for our future. Together, we raised $767,437 from 527 alumni, parents, families, faculty, staff, and friends, far exceeding our original goal.

Your gift helped to unlock $200,000 from members of our Board of Trustees and will make a significant difference for today’s students. I am incredibly proud to be part of this generous, supportive, and caring community.

Thank you for being all in for Skidmore,

Michael McPhillips

Wow!

The Skidmore community really knows how to come together to make a difference. If we can inspire 500 people to give by midnight tonight, we will unlock an additional $100,000.

Please continue spreading the word. Great job everyone!
