We have watched the crisis in Ukraine develop amid international disbelief and outrage. Though the conflict continues to worsen, causing many to despair, our Setonian character inspires us to take action. There is much we have done — and will continue to do — to provide a beacon of hope for Ukraine and the world in these fraught days. Unprovoked attacks against the Ukrainian people have prompted the largest movement of refugees across Europe since the aftermath of World War II. Nations throughout Europe and elsewhere have opened their doors without reservation. Refugees and their host countries require — and deserve — our immediate assistance.
The Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) has been asked to coordinate the University's efforts and is partnering with two organizations, the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey (UACCNJ) and the Sisters of the Servants of Jesus. The Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey is accepting donations to provide humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine by collecting food, clothing and other non-perishable items for distribution to Ukrainian refugees. The Sisters of the Servants of Jesus has three convents in Ukraine, in Zhytomyr, Dovbysh and Vinnytsia, and the 9 Sisters there are aiding those in need by giving them shelter, food and whatever supplies the Sisters have. Part of their convent in Zhytomyr has also been transformed into a First Aid Center. Two of their convents located along the Polish-Ukraine border are assisting refugees, receiving about one hundred a day and providing housing for 1-2 nights, food, rest and clothing. Additionally, they provide information on what to do next to gain refugee status and how to travel further as many of them move on other countries.
Please join us in supporting this vital effort by making a gift today to DOVE.
