Our story
Since 2011, the SJSU Latino Alumni Network (LAN) has championed Latino student success through scholarships, mentorship, and community-building—helping students stay on track to graduate and thrive.
To date, LAN has awarded scholarships to 14 students, but each year more than 100 qualified applicants apply. The need far exceeds available resources. This year, we’re raising $7,500 to expand scholarships, grow our endowment, and strengthen LAN’s general operations and programming for Latino students, alumni, and community members.
In addition to direct scholarship aid, your contributions help sustain LAN’s annual events, mentorship initiatives, and engagement efforts that foster pride, connection, and belonging within the Spartan community.
Your contribution directly impacts students’ ability to continue their education without the burden of financial hardship—and supports the broader mission of building a thriving Latino alumni community. Together, we can open doors, change lives, and create a legacy of opportunity.
“I am very grateful for the SJSU LAN Scholarship because it helped me with the purchase of my books and supported my academic achievement at SJSU. I was thrilled to be accepted to the Doctor of Audiology Program at SJSU — the most competitive program I’ve ever applied to. Graduating in three years with a 3.9 GPA and beginning my doctoral studies remains one of my proudest achievements.”

The purpose
Latino students at SJSU face significant financial barriers. The cost of attendance (~$29,058) is over half the annual income for many Latino families. Financial stress often forces students to work long hours, limiting academic focus.
Your donation helps ease that burden—keeping talented students on the path to graduation. Supporting the LAN Scholarship Fund means investing in equity, opportunity, and the future of our community.
Beyond scholarships, this campaign also ensures LAN can continue hosting cultural and career events, mentorship programs, and alumni engagement opportunities that celebrate and strengthen the Latino Spartan community.
