SpartanFresh was formed by a committee of students and staff from SJSU Cares and the UndocuSpartan Student Resource Center (USRC) working collaboratively to address food insecurity among students at San Jose State University (SJSU). Our mission is to provide critical financial support to students who are ineligible for federal programs like CalFresh, such as those who are non-citizens, have temporary medical conditions, or face work-hour constraints. With nearly 41.3% of SJSU students reporting some level of food insecurity, our program seeks to alleviate the stress of affording essential groceries so students can focus on their education and well-being.
We are raising funds to expand our campus' capacity to support our diverse students, specifically those facing food insecurity who do not qualify for programs like CalFresh. By providing a monthly stipend to cover basic grocery needs, we aim to remove this obstacle to success for eligible students. This initiative aligns with SJSU's value to serve diverse students by actively identifying and working towards dismantling systemic inequities in our institution. Ultimately, we strive to create a more equitable and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.
You can help by contributing to our fundraising efforts. By supporting SpartanFresh, you are advocating for vulnerable students, contributing to a more inclusive academic environment, and helping to foster student success.
