School of Social Work

We will be fundraising for program funding and events. SWAVE is tasked with organizing and coordinating our annual School of Social Work MSW and BSW graduation every year. Because we organize and coordinate our graduation, we are responsible for funding the event. Our resilient cohort has grown through the significant hardships this past year, and we continue to persevere by standing by one another. Social Workers are, and will continue to be, professionals of service, advocacy, and community. Our organization plans to use Gator Giving Day funds to provide community outreach services and events. Some outreach services and events include: volunteering at various food banks around SF, GLIDE Memorial Church, SF Homeless Mother Network, and the 2026 National Association of Social Work (NASW) Lobby Days event. SFSU School of Social Work has the privilege of attending Lobby Days each year to advocate for upcoming legislation in California. We bring our knowledge and education to legislative appointments, where we present our collective opinions on said bills to California district council members in Sacramento. This event has always been completely funded by SFSU School of Social Work, but has been discontinued due to budget cuts by the university. We hope to continue our school’s legacy this year. After all, “the world needs more social workers”!
