Can you envision what the collegiate experience would be like without co-curricular activities? Over the years, too many students at Samford have faced this challenge. They want to join a student organization, compete with a club sport or participate in Step Sing. Yet, they do not have the funds to pay for the participate or travel fees and, therefore, are not able to participate.
Today, on Samford Giving Day, join the Office of Parent and Family Engagement and the Parents Advisory Board in their efforts to raise $60,000 to support the newly-established Student Opportunity to Participate Scholarship! This scholarship will provide funding for students to acquire knowledge, skills and experiences outside the traditional classroom setting. Students may apply for funding to participate in activities that enrich their overall experience and growth.
We want every student to be able to afford participation in things that enhance their Samford experience beyond tuition-based education needs. Your participation in this effort will ensure that students who otherwise would not be able to afford the opportunity to participate now have that chance!
As of April 7, we have had 42 students apply for this type of scholarship assistance. The need is huge. Many are applying for assistance due to family situations that have changed their ability to continue extra-curricular activities like Greek Life fees, conference attendance and club participation events.
