Cumberland School of Law trains future lawyers to become life-changing advocates by helping them learn to use their distinct and diverse voices to represent their clients and serve their communities. The hard work and dedication of Cumberland faculty, staff and students has resulted in numerous national rankings, including 6th for Trial Advocacy by U.S. News & World Report, 3rd in the Trial Competition Performance Rankings overall since 2016, 2nd in the Gavel Rankings overall since 2019, and the 8th top ABA law school competition team in arbitration, negotiation, client counseling, mediation and appellate advocacy.
The Clinical Programs Fund supports a growing range of legal clinics, offering students hands-on, real-world training while serving Alabamians in need. The funds directly support the Cumberland Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic (C-VETS), the Innocence Clinic, the Capital Defense Clinic, the Criminal Appeals Clinic, the Cooney Contracts and Risk Management Clinic, the Parole Clinic, and the Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Clinic at UAB.
