About

The mission of the Saint Mary’s College Club Sports Department is to provide students with a unique opportunity to build, develop, and enhance their leadership, organizational, and management skills in a fun, safe, and supportive learning environment. Participants in Club Sports at Saint Mary’s College are involved in competition, community, and building connections that enhance the student experience at Saint Mary's College. Students are empowered to engage with one another through learning, practicing, building lifelong friendships, and competing locally and nationally in over 15 different sports.

A Club Sport is a Student-led organization that is formed for the purpose of competing and/or participating in a particular sport. Club Sports are student-initiated and student-managed, providing an opportunity for the development of leadership and life skills that contribute to the student collegiate experience and beyond.

Saint Mary's Club Sports teams rely solely on funding generated by the student-athletes. This often comes in the form of player dues, which can vary in amounts from $50 to $1,200 per student-athlete. Operating costs often go towards expenses like uniforms, team practice and pregame apparel, equipment, and lodging & transportation. Specific items some teams are fundraising for include the following.

  • Club Baseball: Baseball field rentals for home competitions; End of season competition in Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Men's Lacrosse: Required non-league competition in southern California
  • Men's Rugby: International tour competition in New Zealand
  • Women's Rugby: End of season competition in Los Angeles
  • Men's Club Soccer: Increasing league fees
  • Women's Club Soccer: Increasing league fees
  • Men's Volleyball: Bus to required league competition at Cal Poly Humboldt; End of season national championship tournament in Kansas City, MO
  • Women's Club Volleyball: Bus to required league competition at University of Nevada Reno; End of season national championship tournament in Kansas City, MO
  • Women's Club Water Polo: League membership fee
