Blueline: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to the Spirit of the Adirondacks for 45 Years

Blueline Magazine is celebrating its 45th Anniversary this year! The editors are seeking your support to grow the magazine and sustain its excellent intern program at SUNY Potsdam.

Published annually since 1979, Blueline celebrates the Adirondacks by featuring the highest quality creative writing and visual art, focusing on nature’s shaping influence. Every issue of Blueline includes new poetry, short stories, and nonfiction essays about the North Country and regions similar in geography and spirit. While always focused on the Adirondacks, Blueline promotes exceptional writing about places as far afield as Washington State and as close to home as the Hudson Valley.

Blueline found its permanent home in the English Department at SUNY Potsdam in 1989. Since then, the magazine has honored its original mission, set forth by Blueline’s founding editor, Alice Wolf Gilborn: to provide writers with a venue “not only to reflect the surrounding world, but to discover the inarticulate truth of the imagination.” This unique mission enhances SUNY Potsdam’s prestige as a voice for creativity in the Adirondack region.

Blueline’s internships provide students with invaluable Applied Learning experience. The interns prepare for careers in editing and publishing, digital design, public relations, cultural advocacy, environmental stewardship, etc. Blueline’s editors collaborate with interns from a variety of disciplines, including English, Graphic Design, Environmental Studies, Computer Science, and Finance. As our interns attest, their work with Blueline is transformative.

A generous grant in 2021 from the Gilchrist Endowment for Applied Learning has greatly benefitted Blueline’s internships program. Helping interns at every level, the editors work closely with our colleagues in the Lougheed Center for Applied Learning at SUNY Potsdam.

Sustaining the Magazine's Mission:

Blueline’s editors rely on continuous funding to publish the magazine. Support from donors contributes vitally to production, advertising, and mailing costs. You can also support Blueline by subscribing to the magazine. Please contact the editors directly about subscriptions.

Continuous funding also sustains our intern program. Among many other crucial tasks, the interns help to maintain our public outreach, through classified ads and “Calls for Submissions” published in a variety of platforms. This outreach is central to attracting the most talented writers and artists.

The Blueline 45 Campaign aims to raise $5,000 for the magazine’s continuous production. A gift of any size will help us reach the campaign’s goal!

Your support today will:

  • Sustain Blueline’s mission to publish great writing about the Adirondacks and regions similar in geography and spirit.
  • Grow the funds needed for annual production and marketing costs.
  • Provide applied learning opportunities for SUNY Potsdam students.
  • Assist in further developing Blueline’s online presence. As we publish a high-quality print magazine each year, the editors are also seeking wider audiences online.

After you’ve made a gift, please don’t forget to share this campaign with others and encourage them to donate or subscribe. The editors can be reached anytime at blueline@potsdam.edu Check out our website at http://bluelineadkmagazine.org...
