Blueline: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to the Spirit of the Adirondacks for 42 Years
Published annually since 1979, Blueline Magazine celebrates nature's shaping influence in the Adirondacks and similar regions by featuring the highest quality written and visual art from emerging and established writers and artists.
As Northern New York's longest-running literary nature magazine, Blueline's pages are filled each year with paintings, photography, poetry, original stories and nonfiction essays reflecting the spirit and ways of life in New York's North Country and beyond.
While providing an outlet for North Country artists to celebrate their natural world, Blueline enhances the value of SUNY Potsdam as an institution with deep roots in the arts and applied learning. Since 1989, when Blueline moved permanently to SUNY Potsdam's Department of English and Communication, the magazine has sustained its original mission. More recently, the magazine has offered applied learning opportunities through internships focused on editing and production, and advocacy for the arts.

Sustaining the Magazine's Mission
Volume 42 was printed this year during a critical time in the magazine's history. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of state-allocated support Blueline normally receives to cover production costs was drastically reduced. Additional support usually raised through in-person events was not possible during the pandemic.
The Blueline 42 campaign aims to raise $5,000 to continue uninterrupted production of the magazine next year. Planning for the next volume will begin in summer 2021 and includes purchasing prepaid advertisements for "Calls for Submissions" from potential contributors. These ads ensure that Blueline continues to attract the most talented writers and artists, including new voices in the field.
Support through Blueline 42 will help cover the costs of next year's production, advertising and office supplies. Just as importantly, a normal production schedule enables Blueline to continue offering internships for SUNY Potsdam students.
A gift of any size will help reach the campaign goal!
Your support today will:
- Sustain and further the magazine's mission of publishing local literature and art based in the natural world.
- Grow the amount of general operating support for annual publishing, printing and production costs.
- Continue providing hands-on, applied-learning internship opportunities for SUNY Potsdam students focused on mastering digital design and editing, desktop publishing and arts advocacy.
