Gifts to Emmitt Christian Gallery contribute to...
The Emmitt Christian Gallery (ECG), named in honor of a former Visual Arts and New Media faculty member, serves as a vital creative and educational space at Fredonia. Dedicated to the exhibition of student work, the gallery provides hands-on experience that extends far beyond the classroom. Each semester, the ECG features exhibitions by students, alumni, adjunct faculty, and visiting artists. Visual Arts and New Media students may apply for their own exhibition slot, and if selected, take full ownership of the process—preparing the space, designing and installing their work, managing publicity, and hosting an opening reception. This immersive experience equips students with the practical skills and confidence needed to present their work professionally after graduation.
While this opportunity is transformative, it also places a financial burden on students who are responsible for many of the costs associated with mounting their own exhibition. Expenses such as installation materials, marketing, and reception costs can quickly add up, creating barriers for students who might otherwise benefit most from this experience. Ensuring equitable access to the Emmitt Christian Gallery is essential so that all students—regardless of financial means—can fully participate and build a strong professional portfolio.
Support from donors helps alleviate these financial pressures, allowing students to focus on their creative work while gaining invaluable real-world experience. Your generosity ensures that the ECG remains an accessible, vibrant space where emerging artists can thrive.
On the Day of Giving, please consider supporting the Emmitt Christian Gallery at a level that is meaningful to you:
- Welcome to the ECG – $25 helps defray the cost of an opening reception
- Hang a Show – $100 covers the gallery’s expenses for installing a spring exhibition
- Get the Word Out – $250 supports publicity and promotion for a fall show
- Bi-Centennial Show – $500 helps fund a special exhibition celebrating 200 years of Visual Arts at Fredonia
- Alumni Exhibition – $1,000 supports travel and expenses for a distinguished alumni artist
Your gift helps remove financial barriers, empowers student artists, and sustains a professional gallery experience that prepares Fredonia students for success beyond campus.
