Gifts to OSCAR contribute to...
The mission of the Office of Student Creative Activity and Research (OSCAR) is to promote and support student scholarly activity, applied learning, and creative work across disciplines.
These opportunities are integral to the high-impact teaching and learning experiences promoted at SUNY Fredonia. During these experiences, students partner with faculty mentors on research and creative projects that develop skills, knowledge, and dispositions that will benefit them in the future. Such interactions are incredibly valuable and, for that reason, Fredonia makes a concerted effort to promote such collaborations.
One of the ways that OSCAR helps to facilitate student creative activity and research is through travel support for students’ participation and presenting at professional events including conferences, exhibits, seminars, and workshops. Benefits of these opportunities are immeasurable—but for many students, the cost of travel and registration is too often a barrier to participation.
This is where you can make a difference!
Last year, OSCAR received 74 applications (totaling $39,420 in requested funds) from students to support travel to academic-related professional conferences. With such high demand, not all applicants could be selected; those who were selected received only partial funding for their requests. Currently, only $15,000 is reserved for student travel, which unfortunately limits the number of students OSCAR is able to assist.
On the Day of Giving - we're looking to add a minimum of $1,000 to this year's student travel budget, so that even more students can benefit from attending and presenting at professional conferences or events. Every dollar you donate will go directly to helping one of Fredonia's students access an education-enhancing opportunity!
