On December 17th, 2021, RMU announced that it will reinstate its NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey programs after the RMU Board of Trustees adopted a resolution affirming the administration’s decision to reinstate the programs for the 2023-24 season. Read the official press release here.
The RMU Department of Athletics, along with the Pittsburgh College Hockey Foundation, announced in August the "Hockey Is The Goal" campaign to encourage raising funds to support the reinstatement of the NCAA Division I men's and women's hockey programs following the discontinuation of both on May 26. RMU set a December 15 deadline for raising funds in order to reinstate the men’s and women’s NCAA programs. This initial goal was met to reinstate both teams and they will return to play for the 2023-24 season.
As we continue to fundraise for the financial sustainability of our programs and to ensure a championship level experience for our ice hockey student-athletes, the RMU Athletics “Hockey Is The Goal” campaign will remain active so fans have an opportunity to continue to support the long term viability of the men’s and women’s hockey programs. Gifts can be submitted via this platform or by contacting TJ Brown, Associate Athletic Director for Development, at (412) 397-5960 or brownt@rmu.edu. Stock gifts, corporate matches, and gifts in other forms will also be considered and accepted.
Beginning in January 2022, representatives from the RMU Ticket Office will be reaching out to process requested season ticket order forms. For those who have not secured men’s and women’s hockey season tickets, availability will be determined on a first come, first serve basis. Season tickets for 2023-24 can also be reserved by calling the RMU Ticket Office at (412) 397-4949. Men’s hockey season tickets are $125 per seat, while women’s hockey season tickets are $75 per seat. Clearview Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center is near a sellout for next season based on previously submitted pledges. Fans can also make reservations now, if interested, by using the season ticket interest form.
The Pittsburgh College Hockey Foundation was formed by alumni players and other RMU hockey supporters to raise money to revive the men’s and women’s NCAA ice hockey teams. RMU had announced in May that both NCAA Division I programs would be discontinued.
"Today is @RMU Day of Giving. Please consider giving to the "Hockey Is The Goal" Campaign & if you already have pledged an amount, please complete your pledge for the initial year. With your help, we are looking forward to being back on the ice in the Fall of 22. Thank you!"
