Gifts to Cultural Nutrition Initiative contribute to...
Each semester we visit local underserved middle schools to provide culturally sensitive nutrition education through our 4-day workshop series. Throughout our series, students learn about basic nutrition science with a focus on chronic disease prevention, and learn how to cook two cultural recipes that have been modified to be more nutritious. All our recipes are low-cost, simple to cook, and inspired by Hispanic/Soul cuisine to be catered towards the Houston low-income demographic. Donations will be allocated towards purchasing necessary produce for the cooking sessions, additional portable stovetop burners and other cooking equipment (stirrers, cooking boards) for bigger group sizes, and transport for our volunteers that do not have a car. Funds will also be used to support on-campus activities for our organization: food/drink for general body meetings, student body nutrition education, and marketing supplies (banners, tablecloths, easels) for fundraisers and club fairs.
