Rice Thresher Gift Fund

The Rice Thresher has provided independent student journalism to the Rice community for 110 years. We publish a weekly print newspaper as well as continuous online stories about campus news, sports, art and more. We're also home to the Thresher Crossword and the Backpage satire section.

Beyond publishing, we work to improve our own journalism as well as educating others. In 2025, we worked with the Texas Association of Journalism Educators to host their conference and teach local high schoolers about what we do. We also attended the College Media Association-Associated Collegiate Press journalism conference in Washington, D.C. and went to educational sessions led by the nation's best journalists and educators.

We were finalists for the prestigious ACP Pacemaker Award and were named Best in Show and 3rd Place Weekly Newspaper of the Year. Since Rice has no journalism major, these conferences are an opportunity for skill-building as well as winning awards.

Our printing fees are paid by the Blanket Tax collected from students' tuition. Your donation to the Thresher helps us send students to conferences, host outreach events for our community, pay our staff and more. Thank you for your generous support!
