About ๐Ÿฏ

The School of Computing and Engineering immerses students in the latest technology and high-level instruction from faculty to create the next generation of leaders, innovators, and thinkers. Your gift to the School of Engineering Academic Excellence Fund works in many ways to help students during their academic and extracurricular journeys:

Mechanical Engineering - Project Baja

  • Beginning in 2021, students have been designing, building, and improving upon a single-seat recreational vehicle intended for sale to off-roading enthusiasts. This vehicle must meet all Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) rules and be rugged, safe, easily transported, easily maintained, and fun to drive. Each year, students take the vehicle and compete in the annual Baja SAE competition, which involves evaluations such as technical inspection, cost, design, sales, acceleration, hill climb, specialty (rock crawl, suspension), and a 4-hour endurance race.
  • Since their first competition, students working on the Project Baja have been award winners - a rare feat for a first-time team competing in their first ever tournament! QU's Project Baja students continue to compete and win in more categories year after year. When you make a gift to the School of Engineering's Academic Excellence Fund, you are enabling Mechanical Engineering students access to more materials for their projects and travel funds to transport their vehicle and themselves to competitions across the country to show off the skills they have learned in the classroom.

Students and Faculty travel to conferences, competitions, study abroad, etc.

  • Our students get ahead of the game by actively presenting research and projects at conferences and competitions well before graduation! They need your help to cover travel and incidental costs that come up along the way. Your gift to the Academic Excellence Fund cuts down on these costs so students can focus on their academics and research exclusively while navigating the world without being held back by fees.
  • We know that the premier companies seeking engineers and computer scientists are seeking highly qualified candidates with tangible, real-world experience, and supporting the Academic Excellence Fund means using your gift to create more opportunities for students to participate in as they prepare for the workforce.
  • Funds to this area also support student groups such as Girls Who Code and ASCE Club. Students who participated in these clubs now work at major companies such as [NEED NAMES].
