Gifts to Boiler Cube contribute to...
Boiler Cube was started in 2025 by a group of chemical engineering students who wanted to give other students the opportunity to get hands on experiences building real solutions to environmental challenges like carbon capture.
Boiler Cube is Purdue's competition team competing in the ChemE Cube Competition which is hosted by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). In 2025, our first year of competition, we placed 3rd at the competition and are excited to compete again this year!
We started off a as a small group of engineering students and have grown into a well established organization that provides research opportunities for undergraduate students.
Our project this year is building a one foot cube that captures CO2 inside of it. The project is designed to get undergraduate engineering students thinking about new and innovative ways to capture CO2 on a smaller scale. Many large industrial carbon capture facilities are not feasible in cities where carbon pollution has the most negative effects. In this project we are scaling down to have more impact.
As a club we really focus on building up the next generation of engineers and get them excited about the ways that engineers can have a positive impact on the world.
This project is important to support because it empowers students to develop innovative, cost effective carbon capture technologies that address one of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. As the need to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions continues to grow, new ideas and practical solutions are more important than ever. The ChemE Cube competition gives engineering students the opportunity to apply their technical knowledge to a real world problem while gaining valuable hands on experience.
We intend to use the donations to further fund the research of our design and provide students the opportunity to travel to the annual conference where the competition is held.
Donations would cover the cost of lab materials and the opportunity to test out new ideas and methods to reduce the cost of carbon capture. This would include new chemicals, pumps, valves, sensors, and many other equipment.
To compete with our design, we travel to the annual conference which has other costs associated with it like registration, travels, and hotels. Donations would also help support us taking more students to the conference.
The consequences of us not getting donations are limitations to our budget when it comes to how we can design our cube. This will include less testing and less opportunity to try out new and innovative ideas.
It will also mean we will have to limit the number of students we take to the competition. This is a great opportunity for students to present our research and connect with other engineering students and professionals.
