About

You can support the expedition to find Amelia Earhart’s missing plane.

A team from Purdue University, the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF), and the Archaeological Legacy Institute has embarked on an expedition to the South Pacific in an attempt to locate Amelia Earhart’s lost plane and help complete the heroic journey she began almost a century ago. Satellite imagery suggests a visual anomaly known as the Taraia Object could be the remains of Earhart’s plane.

This unprecedented expedition is uncharted territory: filled with adventure, persistence, and the shared goal to honor Amelia Earhart’s legacy at Purdue. As part of the university’s pioneering efforts in aeronautical research, PRF funded the Lockheed Electra 10-E that Earhart used in her attempt to circumnavigate the globe. In recognition of this contribution, she intended to return the plane to Purdue after the flight.

Your gift will be used to help fund critical items to support the discovery mission, including:

  • On-site equipment rentals
  • High-speed internet connectivity
  • Transportation

The expedition includes almost three weeks of travel, and three Purdue representatives are part of the crew: Steve Schultz, senior vice president and general counsel, and Sirisha Bandla (AAE’11) and Marc Hagle (ECE’71, MS M’72), members of Purdue’s Cradle of Astronauts.
