The Rose Scholarship is awarded each year to a student dedicated to giving back to their community and who shows extraordinary motivation and determination. Years ago at each district in-service, the college would present bouquets of roses to long-term faculty and staff until someone came up with the great idea to start a scholarship instead of the rose presentation. Many of the Rose Scholars have been featured speakers at the annual in-service since that time. We've learned of their triumphs and obstacles they have overcome. They tell us about their future hopes and dreams. Some have gone on to medical school while others have gone on to four year institutions ... one to Yale, then on to study refugee camps in global hot spots... several have been inspired to pursue careers serving our community through various agencies.
They all are grateful for the opportunity to receive a scholarship, with less worry about how they are going to pay for their educational pursuits. This year on Big Give Day, the Retiree Network is working to raise funds for the Rose Scholarship Endowment, so this tradition can continue in perpetuity.
