PCC Rock Creek is home to an amazing natural area, 100 acres of woods and wetlands, currently known as the Rock Creek Environmental Studies Center. There is a ~1 mile trail leading through the forest and fields, which is open to the PCC community and the public. Some students and faculty already use this area for learning, relaxation, and connection, but many students don’t know about this amazing resource. We recently received a big grant from Metro to make the trails more accessible and improve information about Indigenous cultural and ecological knowledge and connection to the land. Our goal is to connect more PCC students with the land, and with each other.
For Big Give Day, we want to raise funds specifically to support outreach and education efforts with PCC students. Your gift would help fund targeted outreach events with student resource centers, classes, and student clubs. For example, your gift could support a land tending day with the Native Nations club that involves purchasing and planting native plants, followed by a community lunch. Your gift could also fund the creation of educational materials on invasive species, support a student volunteer work party, and be used to purchase boot brushes to remove seeds and debris. These funds could also be used to support the construction of benches along the trail, where students and other community members can rest and recharge.
Join us as we work to raise $4,000 for the Rock Creek Environmental Studies Center!
