About

The James S. Harrison Memorial Scholarship honors the longtime Portland Community College history instructor at the Cascade Campus with the aim of increasing:

  • Outreach to students who might not otherwise consider pursuing higher education
  • Support for students in overcoming costs that might be barriers to attending, or thriving at, PCC.

This scholarship will further his own mark on history by enabling more students, as he urged them, to “think critically and think of what they can do to make the world a better place.”

Known for his presentations throughout the community on history and racism, he also served as Social Sciences Faculty Department Chair and a coordinator of the Teaching Learning Center.

His daughters urge giving to the Foundation to advance his legacy:

"James dedicated his life to sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for people to engage in meaningful dialogue. The PCC Foundation endeavors to provide access to students who might otherwise not have the means to attend college."

Join us as we work to raise $1,500 for the James S. Harrison Memorial Scholarship on Big Give Day by making a gift now!

Thank you, Alyson Lighthart for matching the first $1,500 in gifts to the James Harrison Memorial Scholarship!

Be sure to encourage your friends to do the same by sharing Big Give Day on social media using the hashtag #PCCBigGiveDay.
