About

The Quill Project exists to enhance understanding of some of the foundational legal texts of the modern world by piecing together the context within which constitutional conventions, legislative assemblies, and other formal groups made decisions.

Our digital platforms at quillproject.net and ConSource.org connect hundreds of thousands of American citizens of all ages to comprehensive, easily searchable, fully-indexed, and freely accessible historical sources and analytical tools related to the creation, ratification, and amendment of the United States Constitution, individual state constitutions, and other landmark legislation.

Our ambition is to expand study of US constitutional law by securing funding to work with new partners across the United States. As our database grows to include material related to more and more state constitutional conventions, researchers will be able to track the evolution of U.S. constitutional law across America.

Supporting public understanding of the history of constitutional issues is a crucial part of our work. In the development of our digital tools, and in the development of our broader programming, we aim to have diverse audiences in mind. One of our key priorities is to fund the appointment of a recent law graduate to make our current and future collections more useful to the legal community.

Almost all our work is funded by private donations. Your contributions will support cutting-edge research, the development of sophisticated analytical tools for the study of constitutional law, and new resources designed to meet the needs of scholars and legal practitioners, educators and students, journalists and the general public.

We are enormously grateful for your support. For more detailed information about our funding priorities, please visit our website.
