Gifts to MEDLIFE contribute to...
MEDLIFE believes that opportunities for students aspiring to work in medical-related fields should feel less like a dream and more like a real possibility. We strive to create events that allow students to learn what it truly takes to pursue a career in medicine, and to bring those opportunities directly to them so they can begin fulfilling those requirements.
The demands of volunteer hours, shadowing hours, undergraduate research, clinical experience, and the amount of academic dedication and networking needed to break into these fields can feel extremely overwhelming and intimidating for students. MEDLIFE serves as a way to make those hard-to-find opportunities more accessible. We host events that include research panels, shadowing opportunities, volunteer hours, networking opportunities to guide students toward jobs that provide clinical experience, and hands-on learning experiences such as certifiable suture clinics.
MEDLIFE also reflects Northern’s core value of affordability. Many students face financial barriers that can limit their ability to pursue careers in healthcare. We intentionally keep our events low-cost and accessible, because we believe that financial circumstances should never be the reason someone gives up on their dream. We want all students—regardless of background—to feel included, supported, and capable of succeeding.
As Northern continues to grow our nursing program and other medical-related fields such as pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-physical therapy, nutrition, human performance, and pre-pharmacy (as well as many other heath related fields!), MEDLIFE plays an important role in supporting that growth. We want Northern students to see that just because we are a smaller university does not mean we have smaller opportunities. MEDLIFE shows that with the right support and resources, students at Northern can build meaningful experiences and prepare for competitive careers in healthcare.
We measure our success through student involvement, attendance at events, and the real outcomes students achieve—such as gaining clinical positions, research opportunities, or acceptance into professional programs. Most importantly, we measure success by the confidence students gain in believing that their goals are not only realistic, but achievable.
MEDLIFE stives to make informed decisions about the future of our club. We take attendance and speak personally one-on-one with students to ensure that we provide the best possible experience possible. Our aim is to create events catered to the needs of students in health related fields.
As of right now we are already partnering with Pre-Nursing Club to host this springs blood drive. We would also like to partner with Pre-Health, Pre-Nursing, and Chem Club to host networking events. Additionally, MEDLIFE would love to work with Dr. Nora, the Science Center, and Chem Club to take as many students as possible to a regional or a national American Chemical Society Conference where they can present their research, network with employers in their field, and learn about innovations in Chemistry related fields.
