Thank you for your interest in NIU Impact, the crowdfunding platform where NIU faculty, staff and students can raise money to turn great ideas into reality. Since its inception in 2021, NIU Impact has helped raise more than $500,000 from thousands of donors! Fall crowdfunding campaigns will run Oct. 6–29. Please submit your application by Monday, Sept. 14. Interested in learning more? Please register for one of our upcoming informational webinars: Thursday, Aug. 20, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, noon Friday, Aug. 28, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m. We are looking for compelling stories, dedicated teams of at least five participants (more is preferred) and individuals who are comfortable asking others for financial support. Eligible projects must: Be led by NIU students, faculty and/or staff and be nonprofit in nature. Have a sponsoring NIU department, program or center through which donations can be deposited. Have a project leadership team willing to create and promote materials before, during and after the campaign. Receive the required approvals by submitting an application before the next round’s deadline. If you have any questions, contact Cody Carter at ccarter1@niu.edu. Project Eligibility Gifts made through the NIU Impact crowdfunding platform are treated as gifts to the NIU Foundation and are tax-deductible under NIU’s 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Gifts are processed, receipted and recorded through the NIU Foundation’s online giving and gift-processing protocols. As a result, use of the platform is restricted to projects that meet the following eligibility criteria: Fundraising goals should be between $1,000 and $8,000. Student-led projects must have a faculty or staff member serve as a sponsor. Campaign teams must consist of at least five members. Use of funds: Funds raised must be used under the supervision of the NIU sponsor. Projects raising money that will be passed along to other nonprofits are not eligible. Required approvals: Projects must have the approval of the college dean or unit director and the ranking development officer for the college or unit. If you are unsure who this is, please contact Cody Carter at ccarter1@niu.edu. Projects that do not meet all of these criteria are not eligible to use the NIU Impact crowdfunding platform.
