Gifts to The Pick Museum of Anthropology contribute to...
The Pick Museum of Anthropology cares for a permanent collection of approximately 22,000 ethnological and archaeological objects, with collection strengths in Southeast Asia and the Americas. The museum supports the teaching and research of NIU faculty and serves as an educational resource and cultural center for the University and surrounding community. As a teaching museum, we provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of museum work. Students are involved in curating exhibitions, developing educational programs, providing tours, updating collections records, and caring for cultural heritage materials.
Funds raised will be used to help us expand our paid internship program and offer more opportunities for students to explore museum careers. We currently offer one paid collections management internship each summer and will occasionally work with students doing unpaid internships for college credit. Our goal is to make all of our internships paid while increasing to two collections management internships and two exhibitions internships each year. This will allow us to serve a larger portion of the students that reach out to us every year and to make these opportunities accessible for those that canβt afford to pursue unpaid internships.
