School of Business & Professional Studies | Goal: Create an Innovation Lab to enhance hands-on student learning using technology
Recent Accomplishments:
- The launch of our Executive Residency Program within the Master of Business Administration curriculum allows a non-traditional experience for working adults across the country.
- There are two new program developments in the works: a data science minor for our undergraduate students and a Master of Science in Accounting are in the final stages. In addition to these new offerings, Sport Administration will be integrated into the MBA program!
Upcoming:
- The Impact Business Society has plans to expand to create more opportunities for participating students to learn through field trips and hands-on experiences.
- Supply Chain Management students continue to participate in active consulting roles with a local logistics company.
School of Social Sciences & Teacher Education | Goal: Endowed Funding for Student Experiences & Faculty Professorships
The School of Social Sciences & Teacher Education includes majors in History, Education, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Liberal Studies.
Recent Accomplishments:
- Several alumni have collected accolades as beginning teachers across Eastern NC for their impact as first-year educators.
- Faculty completed and presented their research at various professional conferences.
- NCWU's After-School Tutorial Initiative, a hands-on program in which education candidates work with local K-12 students, celebrated 10 years of service in March 2025!
School of Mathematics & Sciences | Goal: Create & update spaces for Math & Science studesnts to learn, experiment, & research
The School of Mathematics & Sciences includes our Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Environmental Sciences majors.
Recent Accomplishments:
- The School put together a newsletter this summer to share updates and accomplishments from faculty and students!
- Andy Rizzo '25, a SoMS graduate, was awarded the Algernon Sydney-Sullivan Award at commencement.
- Yamila Ordonez was awarded a GlaxoSmithKline Women in Science Scholar Award, earning a scholarship and mentorship opportunities in Research Triangle Park.
School of Health Sciences | Goal: Endowed Funding for Student Research Opportunities & Faculty Professorships
The School of Health Sciences is a new addition to this school year, comprising our Nursing programs, Exercise Science, Public Health Studies, Master of Public Health, and Master of Human Performance & Sports Science.
Recent Accomplishments:
- We welcomed our first BSN Program cohort, who received their white coats in August!
- A new endowed scholarship for Public Health students was established in July 2025.
- Students and faculty completed interdisciplinary projects on campus exploring athlete mental health, sexual health, & stress management.
- The Master of Public Health Program now offers concentrations: Physical Activity & Health and Social Epidemiology!
Upcoming:
- The pursuit of Accreditation for the Master of Public Health Program through the Council on Education for Public Health.
- At least four of our students are presenting their faculty-mentored research at national meetings!
School of Humanities
The School of Humanities includes our English, Communication, Entertainment Arts, Music Production, and Religious Studies majors. We also offer courses in Theatre and Media Arts as part of our Humanities programming.
Recent Accomplishments:
- Many of our Music Production alumni have released their own music, some of which was completely produced, mixed, and mastered by the artist!
- Dr. Doreen Thierauf won the 2025 Exemplary Teacher Award, presented at the May 2025 commencement.
- NCWU partnered with our Humanities faculty and Shafiq Nuijts, an undergraduate student, to launch The Deep End Podcast. Episodes will explore the creative ways faculty integrate their scholarly work into the classroom experience.
Upcoming:
- Several guest speakers are scheduled for this fall to speak on various topics of interest. These events are open to the community!
- Episodes of The Deep End Podcast will be released throughout the academic year, featuring various faculty members discussing their academic research and teaching methods.
