Student-Powered. Curiosity-Driven. Open to All.
Ten years ago, the North Caroline State University Libraries opened a bold space. It’s a place where all students, regardless of major or experience, turn ideas into reality. The Makerspace is where creativity, experimentation, and exploration are encouraged, whether it be for class projects, personal interests, or learning something new.
What makes our Makerspace special?
Access for All: Free and open to every student, faculty and staff member after a short orientation.
Supportive learning: Peer mentors and student staff help students get started and build confidence with tools.
Interdisciplinary use: From engineering and textiles to the humanities and design, students from every college find value in making, bridging the gap between disciplines and fostering unexpected innovations.
Learning by doing: Students prototype, test, and create in a space that supports iteration and discovery.
Now, we are celebrating this past decade by looking forward. Your gift helps keep the Makerspace open, accessible, and impactful for every student who walks through our doors. Every dollar goes directly toward materials, equipment, and learning experiences that power student creativity.
Funds will be placed in the Libraries Makerspace Fund. If the project does not meet its fundraising goal the Makerspace will offer a scaled-down version of our planned programs and workshops. The core mission of the Makerspace will continue, but with fewer resources. If funding exceeds the project need the Makerspace will be able to provide more opportunities for outreach to continue to bring in new users to the Makerspace. Ultimately, exceeding our goal means we can empower even more students to turn their ideas into reality. Gifts are received by the NC State University Foundation, Inc., and may be distributed to an affiliated foundation that manages the fund supported by the donor.
