Your gift to NMSU Ballet Folklórico supports more than a performance: You're helping a student-led effort to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage that flows through our Borderland community.
Ballet Folklórico began in 2022 with just four dancers eager to showcase our vibrant Borderland culture at NMSU events — and the team has since grown to 12 talented performers. Accompanied by the Mexican melodies of NMSU’s Mariachi Orgullo that provides the musical backbone to the Folklórico dancers' vibrant displays, these performers offer a powerful, colorful, and captivating representation of this regional tradition.
As their popularity soars, however, so does their need for resources. A single folklórico performance skirt costs approximately $300, and dancers cover the cost of all other aspects of their attire out of pocket. Currently, the team is limited to 12 dancers due to the number of skirts available — in fact, they are using their “practice” skirts as their performance skirts.
With your support, we can provide appropriate performance attire for the dancers that truly express the cultural and colorful heritage of this art form. These dancers are shaping the future through their love of this tradition from the past, benefiting their own educational experiences and those of their fellow students.
