Core Philosophy
Our golf program focuses on the whole person. We encourage our student-athletes to build relationships that will help one another in times of success and failure. Golf can be a lonely sport, especially when you are struggling. Our program encourages everyone to look out for one another, to push them to practice or study more and to simply be a friend when times are tough.
In life and on the golf course, we will always be challenged by negative influences and our shortcomings. However, we must be able to see challenges and failures as a part of growth and progress. Within the game of golf just as in life, failure is all around us. Success is not a straight line and, in both golf and life, there are always plenty of bad days or bad moments. However, without failure, we do not grow.
We encourage our student-athletes to understand that one bad test, one bad round, one bad day does not define them as a person. Instead, what defines them is their willingness, courage, and ability to learn from their mistakes and turn it into greatness. Our program looks to develop a mindset to not be afraid of failure but instead embrace it as a stepping-stone that will enable each of our student-athletes to reach their goals and aspirations well beyond the golf course.
The last staple within our program is understanding the power of choice. As the ultimate coach Albus Dumbledore stated, “It is our choices that show us what we truly are far more than our abilities.” Within our program, our student-athletes begin to understand that being on time is a choice; that being prepared is a choice; and that our body language and attitude are choices. Most importantly, effort and honesty are choices. Understanding and learning that choices have both positive and negative outcomes can enable our student-athletes to be the best golfer, student, and person you can be. If we make the right choices even though they are not always the easiest, success is inevitable due to the situations we then place ourselves in, the relationships we build, and the understanding that each choice we make can have a lasting impact on our present situation and more importantly future dreams and goals.
Our program looks at success in a way that does not focus on results but instead on the growth each individual makes as a golfer, a student, and most importantly a person. If we can become a better person on and off the course, success will find us.
