About

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  The event is now SOLD OUT but you can still show your support for the Fraley Family Rare Books Endowment by making a gift through the campaign.  Consider a gift of any amount to help us reach our goal!  Thank you everyone for your support!

The exclusive "Rare Wine, Rare Books" annual event will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, in the Duane G. Meyer Library. Buy your tickets now for this unique dining and educational experience! Space is limited!

The evening includes a dinner with six flights of wine. Guests will have an opportunity to view some of Special Collections' most interesting books while sampling wines selected to enhance this year's theme: "The Art of Wine, the Art of the Book."

This unique and exclusive event is a fundraiser for the Fraley Family Rare Books Endowment.  Please plan to join us as we enjoy food and wine with a book-loving crowd!

Tickets are $100 per person. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28. Additional details will be sent to guests before that date.

If you cannot join us that evening, please consider making a donation to the endowment. It is through your support we are able to purchase books that support the MSU Libraries' goal to document the history of the book, as well as care for the volumes already in Special Collections.

Please contact Anne Baker, Interim Head of Special Collections, with any questions: AnneBaker@missouristate.edu or 417-836-5428.

Tickets to the event are sold out but you may still make a gift of any amount to the endowment. In addition, MSU alumni that make a qualifying gift of $25 or more receive an Active Alumni Member card.

Silent auction items are coming in for RWRB 2017!

Check out the photos below!  We have a number of good things in store for this year’s Rare Wine, Rare Books wine-tasting dinner! Items for a silent auction are coming in, including a double magnum of wine and some absolutely fabulous artwork from students (artwork that comes with wine!)

First, we have a double magnum of “Black by Black.” This special meritage wine from Au Bon Climat Winery is a bold and balanced red. Donated by Tom Black, one of the world’s top wine collectors, this wine is only available through charity auctions. The winning bidder can plan on enjoying this wine during a fantastic evening with friends!

Black By Black (2013).

And if a fine dessert wine is more to your taste, you’ll want to bid on one of six bottles of Grand Constance from the Groot Constantia estate in South Africa. This wine was donated by RWRB sponsors, Dr. and Mrs. Walter Gaska. Known as the “Wine of Poets,” this 2013 wine is inspired by history. It is said that before his death in 1821, Napoleon Bonaparte had 30 bottles a month shipped to St. Helena to ease his exile!

The Gaskas also supported the work of students who have taken the small wooden crates the Grand Constance comes in and created Art! A couple of those pieces are shown below, as well as a "before" image of the box. The others will be photographed as they are completed.

Attendees will be able to place their silent auction bids throughout the evening on July 28. Checks, cash, or credit cards will be accepted. Plan to take home a memento of RWRB 2017!
